The Techiman Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 organised its town hall meeting at the Bonokyempem Hall in Techiman.
In his opening address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko said, to ensure accountability and transparency, the Local Governance Act,2016 (Act 936) mandates all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to engage the citizenry and account for their stewardship in the respective Assemblies.
He explained that, it is in fulfilment of this Act that the meeting is been organised to review the performance of the Assembly from January to October,2022 and also present the planned programs and projects for the year 2023 to the general public
He mentioned that, even though the year has been very challenging, the Assembly was able to chalk some successes in areas of revenue mobilisation and provision of infrastructure.
In a power point presentation, the Municipal Planning Officer, Mr. Minta Kwasi Owusu displayed in detail the status of the various infrastructure projects and their funding sources to the general public.
Key amongst them were the completion of the ultra modern Nana Abena market at Dwomo with a fence wall and drainage systems through World Bank loan facility under Ghana Secondary City Support Program ,completion of 1No. Storey 6-unit classroom block for Alkaria Primary School at Ayinabrem with the funding source from DACF-RFG , extension of electricity from Forikrom to the new site of Kesse Basashyia Senior High School, procurement and supply of medical equipment to the Municipal Health Directorate for onward distribution to the various Health facilities in the Municipality, procurement and installation of electrical materials to improve lighting system in the municipality, paving the frontage of the Municipal Administration block, ongoing construction of DVLA and Abanemu roads , ongoing construction of High Court building among others.
The public were also shown projects funded through MP’s share of the Common Fund.
It include, construction of James Town Community market, construction of market sheds at Tanoso and New Techiman, construction of Community football park at Abourso and Ayinabirem, reshaping of Gyarko football park, renovation of Ahenbronoso toilet facility, ongoing renovation of Tunsuoase public toilet, procurement and distribution of bags of fertiliser to farmers , construction of foot bridges at Abourso and Goshen and Construction of Gariki road .
Again, the Techiman Municipal Assembly successfully organised a two-day trade fair on the 21st and 22nd of December,2022 at the forecourt of the Techiman Municipal Assembly.
The maiden event attracted over 100 exhibitors showcasing their local industry innovations, made-in-Ghana products and indigenous service offerings .
The two-day event also attracted hundreds of patrons to the venue .
At the launching of the Business Fair, the MCE, Hon.Benjamin Yaw Gyarko explained that , the purpose of it was to promote local economic activities with the intent to reduce unemployment in the Municipality.
The exhibitors thanked the Assembly for providing them with free stands consisting of canopies, tables and chairs to display their products.
They pleaded with the MCE and the Assembly to continue to organise such events in the ensuing years.
