
The Techiman Municipal Assembly, as one of the ten selected beneficiary cities under the Ghana Smart SDG Cities Programme, held a successful inauguration ceremony to formally constitute its District Implementation Committee on Wednesday, 25th June, 2025.
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council and brought together stakeholders from government, traditional authorities, civil society, and development partners.
Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, the Regional Minister in his keynote address, officially inaugurated the District Implementation Committee. He emphasized the strategic role of the committee in transforming Techiman into a smart, sustainable, and inclusive city. He highlighted the responsibilities of committee members and reiterated the Regional Coordinating Council’s full support for the initiative.

Mrs. Jennifer Acquah, speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, commended the Assembly for reaching this milestone. She stressed that the event was a commitment to accelerating SDG progress in urban spaces. She also acknowledged the contributions of UN-Habitat and the Government of Norway.
Hon. Adjei Mensah, the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of the Committee, in his acceptance speech,on behalf of the committee, expressed gratitude and pledged dedication. He highlighted the Assembly’s three-month work plan and called for stakeholder collaboration to achieve results.
Nana Ankomah Frimpong, Twimiahene, representing the Traditional Council, applauded the programme and charged the committee to demonstrate diligence and transparency. He pledged the Council’s support and emphasized regular engagement with traditional leadership.

With strong commitments from key stakeholders, the Assembly is well-positioned to serve as a model for smart, sustainable urban development in Ghana.
