SUBMISSION OF COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION REPORT
In line with Governments’ commitment towards alleviating extreme poverty in the Ghanaian society and to boost the productivity and incomes of the poor, Government introduced the Ghana Productive Safetynet Program in 2018 for some selected districts in the country.
Fortunately and through the intervention of our hardworking MP, Techiman South, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the Techiman Municipal Assembly has been considered this year for the program.
The program has five components /activities of which the Assembly has selected the Labour -Intensive Public works among the others.
Under this module the Assembly has reached a decision to embark on tree crop plantations in the Municipality.
It has has subsequently secured lands at Nsuta, Forikrom and Nsonkoonee for the cultivation of coconut,cashew and mango respectively.
It is against this backdrop that on Monday 10, July 2023, the MCE, Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko met Nananom and the people of Nsuta to hand over some tools to the community for the commencement of coconut plantation in the area.
Addressing the the gathering, the MCE, thanked the Chief of Nsuta Nana Owusu Ameyaw for earmarking 12.5 acres of land to the Assembly for the project.
He said the Assembly has recruited forty two (42) people in the community who will serve as farm labourers in the next 4years .
He said this people will work for 4hrs everyday in the farm and they will be marked a daily wage which will be cumulatively paid every month by the Government.
He reiterated that, the concept of the program is to help reduce extreme poverty in communities in Ghana.
He informed them that, the program has 4years duration after which the plantation shall be handed over fully to the Community for its maintenance.
He added that, at the end of the program, the community shall be given 70% of the proceeds that will be generated from the plantation and 20% will be used for the maintenance of the farm.
He said government is providing 2400 free coconut seedlings , motorbikes, clock-in machines, cutlasses, Wellington boots and other protective gadgets to support the program.
He advised the community especially the farm labourers to own the project for the benefit of themselves and the future generations.
The Chief of Nsuta, Nana Owusu Ameyaw on his part thanked the Assembly and the MP for selecting his community as one of the beneficiaries of the program and assured the MCE and his delegation that he will do everything possible to ensure the success of the program.
The MCE was joined by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Alhaji Hamza Inusa , the Municipal Agric Director, Mr.Adu James and some Assembly staff.
