
Management of Techiman Municipal Assembly today held a meeting with market women, traders and driver unions at the Bonokyempem hall to deliberate on the up-coming decongestion exercise in the Municipality.

In his opening remarks the municipal chief executive for Techiman Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah stated that the purpose of the meeting was to inform stakeholders about the upcoming decongestion exercise scheduled to take place on the 15th February, 2026 especially from Sunyani station to Nana Addae Simon Bridge.

He explain that the exercise would involve the removal of traders selling on the roadside, at lorry parks, and those who have extended containers beyond their shops, to create way and adequate space within the market, he stress that the exercise will affect some traders, hence the need to inform them in advance.
He further inform members that the Assembly has appointed a new committee led by Mr. J. Adom to supervise revenue mobilization activities. He urge all members to comply with the new rules and regulation of the committee particularly with the payment of revenue.

The MCE seized the opportunity to brief members on the 24 hour Economy market earmark to be build at the Wa station, he stated government intension to build the Techiman market to the standard of kejetia market, as a result traders who will be affected by the redevelopment would be temporally relocated to Abourso, orange market, and Millennium park.
Nana Kentenhene who doubles as the Dabehene of Techiman traditional council, Nana Antwi Boasiko, reiterated the point made by the MCE and urged members to comply fully with the directives issued. He touched on the issue of pragya drivers advising them to operate strictly in accordance with rules and regulation governing their work.
He concluded by encouraging traders to actively contribute to the development of the Techiman Municipality.
The Techiman Divisional police commander Chief Superintendent Albert Fii Othil spoke on the issue of crime within the market and advised traders to take proper care of their goods. He cautioned pragya drivers to load only three passengers at a time, in line with the regulation.

He informed traders that police personnel would be deployed to the market to ensure law and order. He further announce that the decongestion operation would commence in two weeks’ time and advise all stakeholders to prepare Accordingly.
He concluded by encouraging team work among traders and advised them to be vigilant with their money and exercise caution when making phone calls relating to financial transaction at the market.
