Ghana’s 66th Independence Day Celebration took place on Monday, 6th March 2023 in all parts of the country. Techiman held its own at the Ohene Ameyaw Park.
In attendance were, the MP, Techiman South, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Assembly Members, Heads of Security Agencies, Constituency Executives of Political Parties , the Media, Clergies and Imans, teachers and Students.
In his address, the MCE, Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko acknowledged the sacrifices our forefathers made to gain freedom from the shackles of the western colonial powers and urged every Ghanaian to emulate their examples.
Touching on the National theme for this year’s celebration, “Our Unity: Our Strength: Our Purpose”, he called on the people of Techiman to come together with one accord to overcome the myriads of challenges confronting the Municipality and the nation at large.
He acknowledged that even though Ghana has political independence and has made giant strides since independence in areas of access to education, health, electricity and water among others, our economic independence remains a challenge and called for a common front to achieve that.
He cited the effects of COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine which have led to increases in prices of some commodities in our markets to buttress his point.
He pleaded with the people to exercise patience and rally behind the government in measures to addressing the nation’s challenges.
On his part, the MP, Techiman South, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah charged the students to be self-disciplined and take their studies seriously.
He reiterated his commitment to be an agent of development in the Constituency to bring reliefs to the people.
